Stand Up And Be Counted!
A hysterical and hard-hitting look at the world of stand-up
comedy.
Bigoted comic Eddie Pierce faces his critics and peers in a
concert that no-one could imagine, with an outcome that no-one could predict.
Old School Eddie (Jim Davidson)
faces up to the cream of new comedians, including Earl T Richards (Matt
Blaize) who is politically correct, brilliant…and black!
STAND UP & BE COUNTED! gives us a ringside seat as gay
icon Billy Simpson (Lloyd Hollett) and
TV's newest talent Ellie Jayne (Rachael
Barrington) share a dressing room with Britain's most controversial
comedian Eddie Pierce, along with Eddie's faithful tour manager and conscience
Stan (Philip Childs).
The show is co-directed by Clare Kissane,
who is playing Suzie Pierce, Eddie's long-suffering wife.
This ‘pull no punches' play is full of drama and comedy and
provides us with a look inside the minds of these troubled entertainers.
STAND UP & BE COUNTED! will
leave you breathless and gagging for more!
"DAVIDSON
IS A BRIGHT BLOKE. HE'S GOT NATURAL COMIC INTELLIGENCE; IT WASN'T AN ACCIDENT
THAT HE BECAME A STAR." Times
"WHEN
THE TWO [Davidson and Blaize] SHARED THE STAGE, THEY SPARKED OFF EACH OTHER
BRILLIANTLY…PLENTY OF LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENTS…THE SORT OF COMEDY PEOPLE STILL
CRY WITH LAUGHTER AT." Herald Express (Torquay)
"DAVIDSON
COLOURS THE ROLE WITH AN AMIABLE WIT AND A KEEN SENSE OF UNDERSTANDING. A
GENEROUS PERFORMER, HE NEVER APPEARS TO UPSTAGE HIS CAST AND INEVITABLY BRINGS
THE HOUSE DOWN WITH HIS POIGNANT COMEDY" The Stage
"A HILARIOUS TWO
HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT…WHAT'S SO BRILLIANT ABOUT THIS PLAY IS ITS ABILITY TO
HAVE YOU CRYING WITH LAUGHTER ONE MINUTE AND TUGGING AT YOUR HEARTSTRINGS THE
NEXT." Southern Daily Echo
"ACT TWO, WHEN
THE COMICS PERFORM, TEETERS EXCITINGLY BETWEEN THEATRE AND STANDUP, FICTION AND
REAL LIFE….DAVIDSON IS A CHARISMATIC LOOSE CANNON AT THE HEART OF IT
ALL…THERE'S RAW MATERIAL HERE FOR AN ENGAGING GRAPPLE WITH THE RIGHTS AND WRONGS
OF DEROGATORY COMEDY" Guardian
"NO
ONE CAN DENY JIM'S SKILL AND CRAFT FOR MAKING A GAG…HE IS STILL UP THERE WITH
THE BEST OF THEM" Kent Messenger
